The scientific community uses the term to express association with compounds that are associated with living things (autonomous organisms). The mass public use the term in association with a standard for foods. This term is applicable to all food groups. The definition of the standard is that the food was developed without the use or incorporation of synthetic compounds such as anti-biotics, pesticides and the like.
