Posted on: Taking the Plunge into Intermediate
December 30, 2011, 12:58 AMthanks for the input..one of ther most difficult thing for me as a learner of chinese is that as a group foreigners generally in china dont speak chinese ...so i dont have a chance to talk to others about learning problems as most learners are learning thtough university..different to me as i learn as i go....altjhough that process in inself has now gone on for 8 years..and at different times my efforts in learning have centred on different areas such as learning to read or improve listening skills...but listening to you guys speak i definetley realize it is time to really put the effort into improving my ability to read... as it helps in daily life in china the ability to read just makes life so much easier..and in my expereince if chinese know you can speak some chinese they like trying to talk to you so maybe just putting it out there that you can speak some chinese will improve your chances of using it....

December 13, 2011, 01:52 AMi think i stereotype races from lack of knowledge...before i went to europe i used to think of europeans as being all similar but wqith travel i now know them to be all very seperate and different....and the same can be said for most places i have never been or different nationalities i am not familiar with..chinese have samer problem and this is why they cluster us all together as laowai or meiguoren...they just havent traveled or spoken to people from other countries..

Posted on: How to Eat a Hairy Crab
November 22, 2011, 01:32 AMi lived in yancheng for a year and have eaten these crabs before...i also worked in seafood industry for years sending live crabs mainly to taiwan and japan...
yancheng crab would have to be the most overrated seafood i have ever eaten...
Incomprehensible how people can think they are tasty....and yancheng lake is heavily polluted.....if you want to try some nice crabs aussie mud crabs..coral crabs and the old spanner crab leave the yancheng hairy crab for dead..probably why there is a big market sending live aussie crabs to china....tasty and not polluted

May 26, 2011, 09:55 AMmaybe i am old fashioned and dont like change...but honestly i think it is dodging all the delivery guys on motor bikes with parcels protuding in the traffic that makes me hate buying online...those guys ride their bikes like they are in a race.....everything has to happen so fast these days....you buy it online and it arrives the next day....my lao wai teaching buddies all reckon it is much cheaper online....i concede...
