May 10, 2012, 04:57 PMAnother useful tool is the radicals plus the strokes that you can find on http://www.mdbg.net. The radical is the main element in a character, it gives you a direction. You see the radical in the box. The meaning of the character can be totally different. There are a little over 200 radicals.
Just try to remember some radicals and memorising the characters will become much easier.
什 shén here the radical is on the left side and means
rén = man |
on the right side of the character you see
4画 this means total of 4strokes
人亻 this is the radical |
The full character is the radical plus 2 strokes。 Other characters with the ren radical
你 (nǐ= you+ 5 strokes
他 (tā = he) + 3 strokes
们 (men = indicates plural)+ 3 strokes

you can either write the english or write chinese/ copy in
1。on the leftside you see translate choose this
2。 put the character ( 两 = liang)in the empty box, push chinese-english。 then you get the translator, go down and you see in green liǎng, push and it will extend further. You will see a pencil, select that and it will show how to write a character. in one box you can add the whole vocabulary of one lesson. (from the pdf)
This is a wonderful website. there is also a possibiltiy to search combinations with the asterix
