January 15, 2008 at 11:01 PMVery few phones are unlockable. It is the network providers who try to tie you in to using their services. Sometimes the actual firmware on the phone is customized so that certain settings cannot be changed. I have unlocked and replaced firmware on several phones to enable me to use whichever network I want, with the settings I want. Many of the latest phones can only be unlocked however by the network provider releasing the unlock code for which they will demand an exhorbitant fee! Older phones are quite easy in general.
