In formations like this , does the position of the 了 have any effect on the meaning, or does it just set by its position in the sentence like you showed above

Can you say - 不过现在中国已经没有了皇帝

This - 小王和小李结婚了 - was given as an example sentence but we were also told that the particle needs to go in between the verb and the object. So why is it 结婚了 and not 结了婚 is there an exception that we weren't told about?
