Here in CA, pot is leagalized for medical purposes. Personally, I think full leagalization is the way forward for many reasons. With CO and WA leagalization initiatives passed by voters, I think that ship has finally sailed and other states would do well to get on with sensible regulation and begin collecting the tax revenues.

吴国庆 was the 20 yr old kid's dad, and the woman was both his wife and the kid's mother. The kid was probably institutionalized (explaining the white skin) for the past five years (explaining the birthday cards) and recently released. The kid finds out about (or already knew about) mom's past and (still?) can't take it. He comes to the apartment in a righteous rage and demands 吴国庆reveal where she is so he can "restore honor" to the family (guess the State should have held on to him a few more years).
"She's hiding in the basement, isn't she?! Give me the key!" he demands. "No!" says 吴国庆, and swallows the key to protect his wife, guessing his son's intention.
The crazy kid is not dissuaded, and now it's pretty clear what happens. The key is retrieved. The door is opened. Mom is killed (stabbed, symbolically, in the face). Loonytoons commits suicide with the gas. A real Greek Tragedy as Detective Li implies (Li realizes it, as was astutely pointed out above, when he says it's very "蹊跷" - as it's the kid's footprints that lead to the basement).
What I feel this is still not particularly well explained here is the mother and son "disappearance" part. Is mom already hiding and Wu protecting her?

Tai Chi is one of the "three sisters" of internal (内家: nèijiā) kungfu. The others being 八卦掌 (bā guà zhǎng) and 形意拳 (xíng yì quán).

"pathological" Ha - I hear you henning! I wonder that myself.
"Because it has become habitual" might be the most accurate answer for me.
A sister/brother pair of Taiwanese friends I met in college was my first real exposure to Mandarin.
It sounded musical to me, listening to the pure sound of the language without the distraction of meaning. It made me want to study and learn it.
And so a long slow journey began. I ended up marrying a Chinese gal. I studied a little more. I've traveled to China twice. The trips were great, but it made me frustrated with my meager progress with the spoken language. I decided to kick it up a notch.
Happily this decision coincided with the arrival of John at CPod who, together with Jenny have posted some incredible learning material.
I try not to think about what it will take to reach an advanced level of proficiency. I just do the next lesson.

Is this a fixed expression? E.g., would it be somewhat polite/formulaic in this context?
Also, should we read anything into 这次?
In English saying "I'm really looking forward to our collaboration this time" might imply some history. Is this the case here at all?
