Thank you for this topic! I am a Flight Attendant. We have to pass a test in Chinese in order to work our USA-China routes. One of the situations they test us on are allergies. Usually the person giving the test says they have a peanut allergy, or that they are allergic to seafood.

Is there a lesson on escalators?  I work in the airport and when people come out of customs I need to direct them to their connecting flights.  "Take the escalator/go up the escalator and go thru security."  What is word for escalator?  How do you tell someone to "go up the escalator"?

I liked this lesson! I'm a Flight Attendant for a major USA airline. When I work our Hong Kong flight, we have two Flight Attendants who speak Cantonese and two who speak Mandarin. It's beneficial to me, as someone who is learning Mandarin, to see what I have in common with the Cantonese speaking Flight Attendants and try to learn at least a few words to bond us together as a closer knit "family", since your Crew is your "family" when away from your family.  Plus, as a white Midwest American boy, it is fun to at least be able to communicate a few words with any foreign passenger. I must get at least 20 giggles and 10 requests for pictures from Chinese passengers per flight when I speak Chinese to them. They are so welcoming and endearing to anyone who tries to learn Chinese. :-)

I am a Flight Attendant. The word DESK (zhou1zi5)... Can this be used to talk about the desk/counter in the airport?  For example:  The Transfer Desk or the Gate Podium/Gate Check In Desk.  Could you say "ZHUAN3 JI1 ZHOU1 ZI5" or "DENG1 JI1 MEN2 ZHOU1 ZI5"?

Can you explain the difference between yi2si5 and zuo4wei4?  I'm a Flight Attendant.  Which is a more appropriate term to use on the airplane for a seat/chair?
