Watching this reminded me of a series of books for Japanese learners called "Remembering the Kanji" by James W. Heisig which basically teaches the correct writing and rough meaning of each character by using the radicals to create funny stories, and with each character building on the previous characters. The method is outstanding in that with it it is very possible to learn to write the 2000+ common use characters from memory in a couple of months. The second book presents another 1000 or so. and the third addresses the pronunciation, although I don't have experience with the last one.

I believe the author has later written a similar book for Chinese characters called "Remembering the Hanji". It might be interesting to check out and perhaps incorporate some ideas.

My first comment! Cheers!
