浓 and 烈. You can still pull some interesting tidbits out of these old lessons.

Seems odd to say "打包还是带走“。 I would use 打包 when asking to wrap up leftovers at the restaurant and 带走 when picking up food at the counter when there was a choice of eating inside or take-away.

I liked this format. Easy to listen to and follow along. Great to mix it up a bit.

I have seen many restaurants in Shandong province that play on the natural and health conscious theme. Some of these are elaborate and include fake trees and foliage, water features and so on.......

Below is a dish that I think was meant to appeal to the city folk's sense of adventure. The owner described how these five types of 虫子were prepared, but when asked which one's were here favorite said

" I don't eat these!"

I recall visiting 中山陵 in Nanjing. This is a very impressive site, with a seemingly unending set of stairs leading to the top. At the time I thought my driver was culturally ignorant because he didn't recognize the name Sun Yatsen.

Now I know.

Let me go on record that I would rather go to the flower market than the cinema any day. Such a pleasant Saturday activity. I believe my driver always said "花鸟市场“ when we went to the northern flower market in Shanghai. Good review of 之所为 and 要不 structures.

I have never seen a parking dispute end in a fight. Once my driver took a spot in the parking garage after the attendant insisted he could not park there. They argued loudly as we exited the car, then my driver flipped a cigarette in his direction. The attendant snatched it out of the air, and then they were the best of buddies.

Dialogue reminded me of the annoying recorded warning when a truck backs up 倒车请注意。

The day that 星巴克 opened in my neighborhood in 上海 was a very happy day indeed. In fact I had never lived close to a Starbucks in America, Studying for my Mandarin lessons on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Starbucks became a long standing routine. I got to know the staff, and they would help me with language questions. I saw many people come and go, and sometimes you would see an old friend show up as a manager at a different location. Never the best coffee, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the friendly people and warm atmosphere. And the patience of those poor souls dealing with the 老外。

Good advice. It really helps to know how to speak Chinese. I flew in and was advised by some locals at the airport to take the bus into town. My friends flew in later and were led on a wild

ride by maybe a black taxi, I argued with the driver when he arrived with them at the hotel and negotiated a 500 RMB fare down to 200. I think I paid around 20 RMB to get to the city center on the bus. Hiring a 导游 is a necessity to get the most out of a visit like this. And yes, the famous farmer just happened to be there that day to sign my book.
