Great answer, probably worth adding to the grammar section.  However part of my point was that in a beginner stage we are trying to get our sounds right, so you should take care to speak as it was written without adding words. I think it would be better if you remade the last sentence replay to match the words and video.

I am trying to get my head around correct pronunciation of "Na ge ren" but hear two different sounds in full lesson compared with last sentence replay. In Fiona lesson audio and Pleco I hear Nah, but in sentence replay I hear Nay. Are both forms equally common or should I prefer one. I have no problem with regional variations, but as a beginner I do not know which to adopt and should focus on the most common pronunciation.

fun lesson - suggestion for readers - do check out the expansion and grammar tabs

These tabs have some some really good stuff.

I was entertained by the phrase: "If you keep on singing, I'm going to hit you" as it reminded me of my past brother sister wars. and silly phrases are great memory tools.

Perhaps the entire grammar section on bié 别 should become a lesson on it own, perhaps covering both abrupt and polite statements.smile

Does zhè have a varying pronunciation in mandarin - it is taught as jèr, but occasionally I hear "jar".  More commonly in Jenny's lessons but occasionally with Constance or Fiona.  Just wondering if there is a natural variation - perhaps I am mishearing, or perhaps there is a natural variation that warrants a lesson topic in say it right.  Todays' example came from the expansion section  where I hear jar not jer in the audio.
