February 15, 2008, 12:26 PMI found this lesson harder than most at this level, there are a lot of literary constructions and vocabulary that I've only seen before written down rather than read aloud. This may be a stupid question, but would an average Chinese high school student understand the recording completely without a transcript?

June 20, 2007, 07:07 AMBazza, all foreign companies operating in China will have a Chinese company name, however a lot of the time (read always if they are talking to a foreigner) people will use the English name in daily conversation. e.g. 我新买的手机是Sony Ericsson。 I've noticed that slipping English words into a Chinese conversation is neither limited to proper nouns, nor only used in conversations with foreigners. When I asked a Chinese person why, she said it's fashionable to use English... By the way this is just from my experience in Shanghai, not a generalization for the whole of China.

June 20, 2007, 06:27 AMhenning, I think the two 了's here mean that we've talked for more than half an hour and are *still* talking. If you leave out the second 了 it means there's no continuous action, I think the position of the 了 is flexible and means the same thing in either position.
