This lesson got me out of hiding. 

看赛马是我的爱好。我赌博一点儿。洛杉矶和圣迭戈有很好的赛马。

香港赛马也是很知名。香港的水平是Saratoga差不多一样。我也喜欢Flemingon, Caulfield, Randwick, 和Rosehill 在澳大利亚。

So I guess I'm miantiao on this one.

My Chinese friend loved your recommendation, but she recommended a slight change in the word order to make it sing:

你的女朋友问你,"我胖起来了吗?"的时候,千万别对她说实话.

Overall, I found the drivers in China to be great, and very willing to listen my bad Chinese.  They are typically patient and good people for conversation practice. 

I had one weird experience.

I missed my connecting flight at Pudong Airport and needed to get over to Hongqiao Airport.  The taxi queue was about a 45 minute wait and I would miss my connection.

This was the one time I actually sought out the dudes that hang out in the garage that give illegal rides.

The driver quoted me something almost reasonable, like maybe 250RMB.  When we got to Hongqiao he wanted $100 US.  I argued for a few minutes.   

He had my bag in the trunk, the clock was ticking and he wasn't budging.  He had sneakily not gone into the airport but stopped in a (I think a restaurant) parking lot just outside the airport with access to the airport stairs...so there were no officials around.  

He just waited me out, figuring I'd have to pay up or miss my flight. I finally paid up, and put that experience in the "live and learn" column.

You can see a number of these dishes made in the movie: "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman" by Ahn Lee (the movie is in Mandarin with English subtitles). 

The dish that sticks out in my mind is the beggars chicken, where Chef Zhu busts open the clay chicken.

One of my favorite dishes in China is (I hope I've got the characters right) 干煸辣子鸡.  This is small bit sized bits of chicken (with bone in) stir fried with a little oil at high heat, with red peppers (辣椒), fragrant peppercorns (花椒..mentioned in the lesson, see above), garlic (蒜)。

If I'm understanding you correctly, we should not be apply the rules implied in the lesson to all names in China.  This is clear from Jenny's clarification to my earlier question.

Also, going through the expansion examples, one can use anything that helps clarify the name. 

It's clear to me the lesson is using examples from the top 20 most common names in China.

Thanks Jenny.  So Mr. Ginger, "beautiful woman ginger" is not on the guest list.

It's not clear why the last person did not get in.  Is it because he was not on the list or did he screw up the pattern?  Or is it because he used mei instead of yang?

Seems like the common pattern is to say the radical first. 

If I was following the pattern of the first 4 names I might say jiang would be:

姜,女羊姜

Or is 姜,美女姜 the way it's said in China (and he's not on the list)?
