The other day I walked home listening to this Qingwen and enjoying it. I have been gone from China and Chinesepod for over two years. Since I am planning a trip back to my old home in China this summer, I signed up again with Chinesepod for a few months. - It's like meeting old friends... Listening to Qingwen made me smile, I even laughed out loud a few times and drew stares from people around me.

It's nice to be back! It's nice to realize that even though I have forgotten a lot, I can still follow upper intermediate lessons.

Dear Amber,

After months away from Cpod I came in today to see what 's new and see who's around these days and if I should sign up again for a while...

...and the first thing I here is that you have left! What a loss to Cpod and the community. I enjoyed listening to your show and enjoyed getting to know you a little bit throught the podcast.

All the best for your life in New York. May it be every bit as good as you hope it to be and even better!

So, considering that Chinese people really do not like mooncakes that much, should I bring a box when I go to visit my Chinese colleague, who invited us for lunch to celebrate the mid-autumn-festival?

@polyglotwannabe

Swiss German, actually. My guess why Frenchpod is not working well for me, is because I learnt French through the German medium way back when I went to school. And now, I find English distracting... Funny, that it should be so.

I used to be fairly fluent in Italian... Looking forward to trying out Italianpod. Life is just a wee bit too busy just now...

I just read through this thread and I feel for qiren. (BTW,Licha08's remark is totally off the mark. "go to frenchpod" Ha! Qiren can go as a teacher...) He/she sounds like an interesting, motivated person.

A while ago, I actually checked out frenchpod, since if I want to return to Europe seriously I may have to refresh my French. However, the funny thing was, that while I love Chinesepod and enjoy the banter in English, and actually appreciate explanations given in English, the very same thing really annoys me in Frenchpod. And it's  not that I don't need explanations in a language I understand. But it seems that to learn French through English won't work for me. It's gotta be French-French, or maybe through some  help in German... Funny thing.

I tried Spanishpod and had no problem with the English (I never learnt Spanish before). I have yet to try Italianpod. I may not like it very much, either...

That's exactly the sentence structure they are trying to teach in this QW:

不是  + verb + object (or whatever) + 吗?

It means a different thing from, say, 你没去北京吗? (You didn't go to Beijing?)

It implies the "Weren't you supposed to... aren't you expected to ...

maybe we should all try to calm down, practice 流瑜伽 (flow yoga) or something, until the bugs are fixed and we can resume learning Chinese...

rjberki, 你为什么绑架了sparechange的龟吗 ?你不是喜欢它吗? 它不是会喜欢的吗?

I wonder if that is correct Chinese here... I wanted to say "Don't you like it (the turtle)? Isn't it (the turtle) likable?"
