October 28, 2013, 05:35 AMQuite a while ago I suggested a BST on the Party and from David's reply got the impression that it wouldn't be forthcoming. Glad to see it became a lesson. It was probably easier to start on this subject with an Intermediate dialogue than address all the questions we curious foreigners might have in the BST format.

April 24, 2013, 12:08 AMFWIW--The 打 in 打的/打车 isn't so much "take" as "get". You avail yourself of one. Taxis are a bit different from shared modes of public transportation. A cab is exclusive to you for your ride; you hire it and it goes where you want it to go. Whereas you don't "get" a bus, train or plane; they run/fly on scheduled routes and you find one that most suits your needs and take it to go somewhere.
打飞机 you know is slang for something quite different. It was mentioned (of course) in the discussion section of that QW too.
