Li Bai came from a wealthy family. From his youth he received the best education and he didn't have any economic pressure, only because of this was he able to live so freely. However, Li Bai's travels to all the great sights had a purpose. He wanted to make friends with famous and powerful people and hoped that someone would recommend him to the emperor. Li Bai's ambition wasn't to become a great poet. He wanted to go from being a commoner to an adviser to the emperor.
