Writing a letter

November 28, 2007, 10:25 PM posted in General DiscussionWhat would be a good way to open and close a letter?
For example in English you would say Dear xyz and finish with Yours sincerely
I am thinking about sending my friend a letter as a surprise and a learning exercise though I think what I am looking for is quite informal more the kind of thing friends would send to each other and not something you would write to apply for a job.
Thanks
RJ
November 29, 2007, 04:54 AM亲爱的 is the informal way to say "Dear" to begin a letter or you can say 尊敬的 if you want to be formal. You can also start a letter with 嗨 followed by the name. This translates as heil and is informal. Ending a letter is more difficult. I sometimes say 工作 顺利 (gongzuo shulli) which is "work smoothly" - this is like saying "take it easy". I also would like to have some more endings. Perhaps someone at Cpod can help us. -Bob

November 29, 2007, 05:01 AMthe pinyin for 工作 顺利 should have read gongzuo shunli. I can not type. The pinyin for 嗨 is hai. I hope I got those right. -RJ

November 29, 2007, 03:55 PMI vote for a Qing Wen. One other letter closing is 祝你健康! Which wishes good health (zhou ni jian kang). -RJ

November 29, 2007, 05:01 PMI asked that question a while back and Amber did provide useful stuff, gotta look it up, will try Bazza's trick since these conversations aren't searchable (i.e. 谷歌)

November 29, 2007, 08:24 PMThanks Goulniky. The Chinese dont seem to be real big on closings (or greetings for that matter). The choices are somewhat limited it seems.
