thrid tone boxes?

However,except for the download of the transcript, in most cases the Pinyin vowels in the third tone appear as small boxes in the tabs for vocab and exercises. The box is the same regardless of the vowel. Is my computer not letting something through? Is there something else on which I should click? Thanks.

Sorry that it took me so long to respond. I found that switching to Mozilla Firefox provided a better solution than trying to change my computer settings. I now have letters and third ( I really do know how to spell third) tone marks in the texts where they belong. Thanks.

March 31, 2011, 03:29 PM"thrid" is the original spelling, but it is harder to say and people kept pronouncing it "third" so after a couple hundred years the spelling changed to match the wrong pronunciation. So really, you were right the first time, and everybody else is wrong. ;-)
Also: where and there used to rhyme with here.

February 24, 2011, 03:25 AMI think it is your computer though I wouldn't put it quite like "my computer not letting through"...this 3rd tone info will be getting through to your computer alright..it's just that your computer must not have the font to display the third tone. You'll have to go into your computers settings somewhere for that. I'm not sure of the best way to go about it, but off the top of my head I think you go to control panel and then to the languages settings and then get the East Asian fonts. Good luck.
