How Does the Progess tracker work?

I finally joined the premium subscription and am greatly looking forward to what may come in enhancing my Chinese. 

One thing I don't understand is how the progress tracker works.  I know it says beta, but at what point does it "know" that you've taken a lesson?  I took the test to a lesson and went back to the progress tab on the home page and it still said "newbie 0/50"

Is there something I need to do to mark it as "complete"?

Well...I figured it out. 

But for those that don't know, under the player there's a little arrow button that says "Pop-out".  Click that and click "Mark as Studied".

Pretty simple.
