Hi Poddies,

Long time no post.

I'm seeking advice. Do any of you have experience having your Mandarin (or any language really) evaluated by a telephone interview? Do you have any advice? Tomorrow morning at 10am Michigan time (10pm China time) I have an interview to see if my abilities are good enough to entrust students with me.

Thanks!

No but good luck!

I assume this would be to teach Chinese in Michigan rather than teaching Chinese people in Michigan?

I guess it depends on the level you are aiming to teach as to what types of questions you may face?

It may be worth bearing in mind that your ability to communicate in English could be just as important, especially for beginners. They may ask you to explain a Chinese concept or word in English.

Also, for the lower levels pronunciation may be more of a desirable than a large vocab.

Like I said, I have never done this but they are just a few things that spring to mind.

Good luck and I wish you all the best.

You are right about teaching Mandarin. I just had the interview. I don't know what to think. It was pretty tough. We'll see. Thanks for the good luck wish!
