Downloading Podcasts on Android

October 26, 2011, 10:45 PM posted in General DiscussionHi,
I've never had an I-pod, but I just got an Android Transformer and I'm slowly learning how to use it. I'm really excited that I've found some Chinese flashcard apps, but I'd really like to be able to listen to the lessons that I'm paying for on Chinesepod while I'm on the subway on my way to work. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Thanks.

October 27, 2011, 01:56 PMThanks. I'd tried using both Pleico and Ankidroid, but I couldn't get it to work. The Chinesepod app isn't as pretty--it doesn't allow writing--but it works. If the vocab could be loaded as a group into the flashcards from within the app, and if the fashcards could say the word when they flip, it would be even nicer. Is there any plan to include the matching game in the future?

October 27, 2011, 07:44 PMAlso, the flashcards haven't been separated into categories, even though I've separated them into categories on the site. Am I doing something wrong?

October 28, 2011, 06:33 AMYour vocabulary categories and labels should appear when you sync your app, but it's possibly a bug. I've shown this to our developer, who is taking a look.

October 29, 2011, 06:52 AMThanks, again, JC! I've tried re-synching several times, but it hasn't worked yet. It will be interesting to hear what the developer says. Also, if s/he might be adding the audio files to the flashcards...?

November 01, 2011, 02:33 AMHi Lyandra,
Apparently the flash cards sync in some cases, but not others. According to the developer, this is a temporary limitation that he's planning to fix for future releases. I'm sorry to report that there's not time-table yet.

November 01, 2011, 08:37 PMThat's unfortunate because not having categories makes the flashcards really unwieldly to use. I will have to find another way to study them...

November 08, 2011, 11:39 PMlyandra01: I had the same problem with my flashcard labels not syncing correctly between the android app and the website. I found that if you log out of the app and back in, and then sync the flashcard list (which will be empty when you log back in) it picks up all of the labels correctly.
Hopefully that works for you!
Just a note if the devs read this, hitting the sync button will download new words that you've added but doesn't seem to pick up/apply the labels. This feature works fine with the iPod app though.

November 16, 2011, 03:01 PMThanks. I didn't try logging in and out yet. I just uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it to get it to work.

October 27, 2011, 05:15 AMHi Lyandra,
There are a few ways for you to access ChinesePod lessons on your Android.
First, we have an app available in the Android market that allows users to access all our material from their phones.
Second, you can download the MP3 lesson files and transfer them to your phone, listening to them as you would other podcasts and music.
Third, you can try our mobile website, m.chinesepod.com
I hope this helps!
