What's up with the Karate or Tae Kwon Do kid advertisement? Shouldn't he be wearing a Kung Fu uniform?

that's a Taekwondo uniform.

It's an interesting question you bring up. Based on my experience in China, it seems that Kung Fu is a forgotten martial art. Seeing old people do Taiji/Taichi in parks in the mornings is common, but that's not kungfu. Seeing young people do martial arts dances/performances is also common, but that's not kungfu either, it's much more of a group dance performance that's inspired by marital arts.

Every once in a while people mention Shaolin Kungfu. I've never heard of a single person who practices or trains in kungfu fighting. Like many other aspects of Chinese culture, kungfu is on the endangered list.

What's odd is that an interest in martial arts is still evident, as Taekwondo and Muai Thai gyms are becoming more and more common, as well as jijitsu and MMA gyms. For now, Taekwondo is the most popular and well-known about martial art in China. Taiji is more of a type of meditation/exercise that's inspried by wushu(martial arts)
