Access to cpod this afternoon
chris
October 07, 2012, 12:57 PM posted in General DiscussionHi all. Is anyone else struggling to get onto the cpod website this afternoon (BJ time) from within China without using vpn? Neither laptop nor phone are working for me.
chris
Thanks Jenny. Not sure which ISP I was using on my laptop earlier, since I was at a cafe. However, for my phone I am using China Mobile data service.

October 15, 2012, 04:46 PMI am in Shanghai and the service was off all last week. I tried calling, but no one answered the phone. Not a good sign. I also thought the company had gone out of business.

I am terribly sorry for the trouble. ChinesePod is not out of business. For some reason, some foreign business websites are blocked. We tried a lot and finally found a way to fix that problem. In the future, the problem might happen again. One way to access ChinesePod in that case is to use VPN. Or please send us email to support@chinesepod.com.
The number should work, too. Could you let me know which phone number you called?

October 11, 2012, 05:33 AMDown here in Guangdong Chinesepod seems to be entirely unavailable (unless you use a VPN) for about 5 days now.

October 11, 2012, 06:13 AMGuys,
Recently, many sites hosted outside China had tourble with the Great Fire Wall. We have started to set up our own server to avoid this problem in the future.
In order to help us understand the details of the problem, could we trouble to provide a screen shot that will gives us more information about the problem? If you are using Windows, please click 'start','run', cmd return, enter 'ipconfig /all', get a screen shot.
Please send the screen shot to our server admin sun.jiabin@chinesepod.com
Thank you for your help!

Hi Jenny
As a China-based user I would be interested to hear, if possible, a little more about these plans.
There was a two-week period when ChinesePod was completely off the air - this is an important consideration for a subscriber, now and in future.
At this point in time the site seems to be working perfectly - does this mean that the new system has already been implemented?

October 13, 2012, 02:51 PMI am in Shanghai and had the same problem. I actually thought the company had gone bust. Made me think of the recent lesson;
我们这么大一个点,怎么会说关门就关门

October 13, 2012, 04:28 PMHi everybody! I remain vpn free so I have missed all the gossip.
As a non-techie it was a strange experience: ChinesePod became steadily more and more unavailable, until the addict in me accepted that ChinesePod was off-air. LACP was a dull affair.
PS. My wife has been delighted that I have been ChinesePod free for the past week or so.

October 15, 2012, 03:13 PMI am in Shanghai, the service was off line for about 2 weeks but came back a few days ago but it seems dreadfully slow and I cannot download lessons as my computer gives up before the download has finished. Also having problems playing the longer lessons/dialogues.
I suppose it could be my computer but, I suspect not.

No, it's not your problem. Technically, it's not ChinesePod's problem, either. But we are working on it now. So far, the website should work. We expect in the later this week speed problem should be fixed.
We are sorry for the problem.

October 13, 2012, 02:41 AMI'm in Fuzhou and today (Sat 13th Oct) is the first time I could get in to Cpod since last week. Still a little slow but omg it's working.
Tongue in cheek:
Maybe you need to "harmonise" the user comments to stay online
or maybe another firm has some guanxi that you don't.
Many a true word said in jest.

October 07, 2012, 01:40 PMChris,
It seems some are able to access fine but some aren't. We are looking into it now. Seems to be a problem with Internet providers.
