算了 conveys about the same degree of upset as 'Excuse me!?!'

Our grandchild lived in China from a few months old, and our solution was to rarely use taxis. (To and from the airport sometimes was the exception). Buses, the metro, walking ... there are options other than taxis. We also avoided mianbao che.

Just seat belts are inadequate for a child's car seat in any case; you need anchor points. I'm not sure that you would find cars in China to take your foreign child car seat.

Hi Baba, I haven't been here for (gulp) a few months it seems, and the site has changed. I'm wondering how we see (how we're notified) that there is a response to a comment now. I had to do some detective work to find Community/Conversations, and just happened on your comment. It's all under Dashboard now?

It's really focused on the tablet platform now, but it's difficult to interact with other learners there, except on a lesson by lesson basis, do you agree?

Yes - I remember 'Are you smarter than a 5th grader' - I reckon that you would have been a smart 5th grader, keeping everyone on their toes. :)

I also enjoyed the lesson. It's beautiful and, as usual, I learnt something.

Just this morning a friend wrote to me: 帮我post下吧, 我什么群体都没有。bàng wǒ [post] xià ba, wǒ shénme qúntǐ dōu méiyǒu (Share this please, I don't have any [ details of who is in your] group).

I had to look up 群体 qúntǐ (groups of people as you have in social media), and here it is reinforced in the lesson. This happens to me often!

起初,当我看了标题,我感到震惊。以前我住在玉林一年半,哈哈,成都玉林区,不是广西玉林市。虽然我不喜欢吃狗肉,可是我经常看到了狗肉餐馆,狗肉面等等。

The other reason for a staff member is for when someone does cash out and then leaves the cash sitting in the slot. Yes, I did it, and was told at my local that they get 4 or 5 cases of this, at least, each day. If you keep your receipt, and the next customer doesn't steal your money, they will reimburse you. They recover the money and note the time so if your receipt matches ...

I'll say this while I think of it: since the latest revamp, I have difficulty reading 汉字 on a (Eee PC) laptop. Not all characters, but some are presented incorrectly, or they are just too difficult to read. Not a problem on my tablet. Does anyone know how to optimise the appearance of characters now for a laptop?

I don't mind using the tablet for most things, but it's funny that the 'service' is different in the two mediums. One that is annoying: lessons upload to the tablet quite a bit later than if you use iTunes or go to the Website (as I am doing now).  Ok, the tablet just updated as I type. But it is usually a day behind.

我先上个厕所。个 here is a 'colloquial' particle.

This sounds like 我去理个发 wǒ qù lǐ ge fà, where 个 appears between the verb and its complement.

Is this a general rule, or are there just some cases where 个 can be added this way?

Hi Mike, missed your earlier comment. Well my examples are legion .. just my personal experience, no data. I have seen women cook in the home, but I'm surprised by how often it is the man. Must be the company I keep. Put it this way, except for a couple of times (one is someone who does it for a living), I have learnt how to cook Chinese dishes from Chinese men.
