射击 is the general name of the olympics shooting competitions.

移动靶 is the name of the moving target competions.

But I've heard that the "unofficial" chinese name of 移动靶 is 跑猪靶

跑猪靶 [pǎozhūbǎ] (running-pig-target) fat female pig used as target for shooting

As Zhū is also a chinese name, it seem quite offensive.

(Correction: ... it seems quite offensive) Thinking again about this discussion and from the context, I also suspect some kind of hidden joke with the mispronunciation of Zhū as Qiú : 跑囚靶

Hi bbjt,

Nice photo! I've just read an interesting 跑猪靶-related article. It says the name of the game had been originally called 跑鹿靶 (deer) in China until 60s, but it was changed to 跑猪靶 from an animal protection (动物爱护) standpoint (poor pigs!), then after that some guys naturally claimed that (pig) was also an animal! And thats why the game is called 移动靶 in China now.

Changye,

Thank you for this explanation and link.

That's really interesting to learn about this kind of vocabulary evolution.
