I am looking for a Forum discussion with an embedded article excerpt + several high-quality links on the topic of "How the Beijing accent became standard Chinese".

It was excelent material.

I just cannot find it anymore. I know I read it during my time in China Sept/Oct 2006.

Anybody better than me in digging that out?

Beijingers don't have accident, just the rest of China. Americans are the same. It's the British who have the accident. (ha ha, just kidding, but I do get stumped when someone tells me they can kind of tell where I am from in America, and I have to even think what that would be they heard...)
