Old Forum discussion on the history of Mandarin in the 20th century

It was excelent material.
I just cannot find it anymore. I know I read it during my time in China Sept/Oct 2006.
Anybody better than me in digging that out?

(ha ha, just kidding, but I do get stumped when someone tells me they can kind of tell where I am from in America, and I have to even think what that would be they heard...)
