February 22, 2008, 01:58 AMhaha,yeah......Bababoo is that one. For a chinese , it's very difficult to understand some english. My Louisiana friend take many efforts to clarrify that. for example,I really don't know "Do you have a mouse in your pocket?" although he clarified many to me. I really can't understand is there any relation with a mouse? hehe, just a example to explain how difficult for a chinese to learn english.

February 22, 2008, 02:32 AMBababoo, I think your problem is that no one should ever learn English from a Louisianian! They say things like - "all y'all" - "I'm fixin' to..." - "geaux" instead of "go" - "mudbugs" instead of "crawfish" - "erster" instead of "oyster" - "makin' groceries" - "who dats?" - "bonjour y'all" :P But I love my Louisiana...went to college at LSU and the people are second to none!

February 22, 2008, 03:47 AMuser36872, what state are you in? Depending on your friends' English levels, a simple "conversational English" class may help them out. In communities with large numbers of internationals (such as mine in Michigan), those classes are often readily offered by a variety of groups for various prices. I teach ESL to Chinese in Michigan, and so far haven't found any great websites, since most seem to be geared towards business English rather than everyday conversation (as I believe Englishpod was the last time I checked it out - though that was awhile back). That said - I think we should all talk our beloved Praxis team into starting a service for English learners who speak Chinese. It could eventually branch out to other languages of origin, but hey, the fact that Chinese has the most native speakers of any language ought to buy it some rights, don't you agree? ;-)

February 22, 2008, 06:13 AMHi. If you're talking about EnglishPod101, this is a site run by the same people behind JapanesePod101, which teaches Japanese to people in English. When the minds behind JPOD101 discovered that many native Japanese speakers were (very quietly!) lurking at JPOD101, because they wanted to learn English from the hosts' excellent banter, and -- most importantly -- they felt comfortable with the pace and style of the site, they didn't waste much time setting up EnglishPod101 to teach English back to Japanese speakers, using the same talented hosts and teachers! That was a smart move. Seems so much more intuitive and sensible than some of Praxis' recent "expansionism for the sake of it", if I may say so with a great deal of respect for CPOD (though not yet for Praxis...).

February 22, 2008, 01:55 AMI think there is an EnglishPod out there, run by a different parent company than Praxis. I think Casie is a perfect example of a native Chinese expanding her English on CPod. Sorry if I sold you out Casie!
