Traditional Characters and the plug - in.

Ok, so Calkins provided this link:

http://facebook.praxislanguage.com/misc/install_traditional_plugin.html

The link takes you to a page that installs the plug-in for traditional characters.  I did this and I restarted my browser.  It seems to work.  Somewhat.

The Dialogue and Expansion for each lesson displays traditonal characters, but the vocabulary list is still in simplified. The exercises give you the choice between simplified, traditional and pinyin.

So, how about the vocabulary lists?  How do you get that to change to traditional?  Is there a setting feature somewhere I'm not aware of?

The database currently only has space for a single representation of a word (simplified or traditional). If the plugin is installed, you should be able to save traditional characters to your wordlist by clicking on them (dialogue or expansion pages). The vocab manager will show the characters in whatever script they were saved.

bismarck3005, I agree that it would be really nice if there were a feature in the Vocabulary Manager that would toggle characters between traditional and simplified. Before I learned about the traditional plugin, I had about 750 words already saved (simplified)...so now half of the words in my vocab. manager are simplified, the other half traditional. The most recent improvements to the vocabulary manager were great...maybe the next upgrade could include a "traditional / simplified" feature. It'd also be nice if the Vocabulary section of each lesson could be in traditional. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have the Dialogue, Expansion, and Exercise sections in traditional, but not the Vocabulary section. I know it's all a lot easier said than done...just a wish list for those of us learning traditional characters!

bismarck3005, thanks for putting up those post. Traditional character support on this site is apparently better than it appears, just well hidden. I had no idea that you could save traditional characters to your vocab manager.

Yeah, thanks. I'm stuck with traditional because that's what my son uses at school, so I really appreciate the discussion on how to maximize it...

Well, the plugin works great, but every traditional character that I save to the vocab manager is saved in simplified. Anyone else seeing this?

I think I figured it out - if you save a word that's already in your vocab manager, it bumps the new word into "unlabeled" - you end up with both the simplified and the traditional character saved. So you have to delete the simplified, then replace it with the traditional...
