So what would the essential itinerary be for a whistle-stop visit to Shanghai to fill 48 hours - to experience the city and make a decent flickr slideshow?

1. visit the Cpod-headquater 2. get some streetfood 3. visit the places recommended by the Cpodteam (hey that would make a nice upperintermediat / media lesson) and check out the shanghaishow (http://www.theshanghaishow.com/) to discover a bit of shanghai before you go there 4. due to the things you didn´t have the time to visit, make a plan to go there again soon and stay at least two weeks n_n

Go to the top of both the Jinmao Tower and the Pearl Tower, and use the subway. ;)

I have heard about 'filthy delicious' but what would be at the other end of the spectrum. I'm not talking Michelin Star but just a good hustle'n bustle restaurant where the variety and freshness of the food are the star (no brains, please!).

Following on from the Oscars theme which was inward looking, wouldn't it be a good idea for Cpod to use it's experience from living in Shanghai combined with the experiences of Cpod users who have visited to come up with not-so-obvious essential list - something a little off-beat like Bazza's ordinary but great suggestion - take the subway. This idea came to me yesterday as I was in my local Waterstones in Dublin. There was a shelf near the til with the recommended books of staff with a blurb handwritten by the staff member as to why that book was significant. There are so many great personalities at CPod and it would be great to hear some of the personal choices that for them make living in Shanghai unique. Heck, Oprah can do it and send book sale sky rocketing. Is it time to test the CPod effect? "Chinesepod recommends" (Note to graphics department: make a red-ink chop-like stamp with CPod encircled with a star!)

Hey, I tried to get the bike I borrowed from a friend across the river to get to the Pearl tower to meet friends at 5pm for dinner... I never found the ferry, it was May 1st holiday anyway, and I gave up... was 2 hours late. Yeah, use the subway. Don't ride bikes... too many people mad when I kept going down NO BIKES ALLOWED streets (seriously, I didn't see the signs, and never thought the non-express way roads would be car-only....shesh)

The "great" subway experiences I have had in the past involve the inevitable scrum that happen when trying to get onto a packed train. Also making faces at kids as they notice you as different and can't help but stare. Then they smile which in turn makes their parents smile which is a good way not to feel so odd being a tall foreigner!
