Here's an interesting article on the Olympics and China's future.

BBC Radio 4 will have four lectures on China starting Tuesday June 3rd, 9 am (GMT).

- Lecture 1 : Chinese Vistas - Confucius

- Lectures 2 and 3 will explore British and American interactions with China.

- Lecture 4 is about changing Chinese ideals of the body, from the bound feet and queue of the Qing dynasty, to 7'-6" international basketball star Yao Ming.

Sounds like they should be interesting.  You can listen online here (click on the "Listen Live" button).  And if you're like me, and will be sleeping during the original airing, you can listen to archived lectures any time.

The Reith lectures can be heard on BBC Radio 4 from Tuesday 3 June 2008 at 0900 and on the BBC World Service from Saturday 7 June at 1800

Don't know if the world service would be better for anyone but at least it's available.

Thanks Calkins for the info, should be interesting, hopefully.

I was actually a little disappointed by #1... I kept sort of waiting for the introductory background comments to end, and then it was suddenly over.

I did love the names in the question section at the end: "Yes, please, from the Archbishop of Canterbury." "Over there, please, Paddy Ashdown." Now that is an audience! "You know you've arrived as a scholar when..."

They're also available through the BBC Radio 4 choice podcast.
