Hi Pipsy,

I'm a fellow Ubuntu user.  Thanks for your offer to help!  One thing I've never been able to find an adequate solution for is the following.  If I set the language to Chinese, I want to be able to get interactive Pinyin translation of Chinese characters.    Any ideas how to do this?  I already have this via HanziBar within Firefox.

I've resorted to compiling cheat sheets from the translation project, but to look something up there is so inefficient compared to something automatic and interactive.  So what always ends up happening  is that I will need to do something relatively complicated and give up, and revert the language setting to English.

try looking at the stardict package. I just started using it, but it does allow mouse over with firefox.

still trying to figure out which dictionaries are best to load into the program. I'm someone who learned some traditional mandarin, years ago; need to spend more time learning pinyin, reviving old skills.
