Group Founders Need To Approve "Pending Applicants"

July 29, 2008, 01:21 PM posted in General DiscussionDo group founders realize that they need to approve users who want to join their group? I don't really understand why users need to be approved, but they do. It's not made very clear, but here's what you need to do:
1. Go to the group section here and click on the group you created.
2. In the "Group Information" box at the right, click on "Manage Members."
3. Click on "[pending applicants]"
4. Check user name and click "Accept" (not sure why anyone would reject a user).
I applied for the following groups over a week ago - please approve me when you get a chance:
- Shenzhen
- Taiwan
- Chicago
CPod, is there a reason that users need to be approved? Seems a bit silly to me.

July 29, 2008, 02:35 PMNot only do you need to realize that approval is necessary, you need to actually check up on it regularly which is a huge pain in the ***. If it doesn't become automatic, then there should at least be a notification when you log in, just like if there is a message waiting in your inbox.
While we're on the subject there's some broken English on the "View all members" page for each group, for example. It says under each member "Join in the group <date>".

July 29, 2008, 03:17 PMI'm beginning to get a complex- I applied to San Francisco group, Character Group, and Inner Circle and haven't been accepted yet to anything!
I haven't felt so rejected since I was not accepted into sorority in high school. HeHe.

July 29, 2008, 06:13 PMI think it should say "There are [number] new members pending" in the "Group Information" box so you know if you need to go to "Manage Members" section.
Also moderators should be able to approve new members as well, because as it is you can't really do anything as a moderator.

July 30, 2008, 01:20 PMNot a big priority for CPod, but one other fix needed in regards to the groups:
From users' profile page, the links to his/her groups are broken. The link only shows the first letter of the group (i.e. "C" for Chinese Music)...when you click on it, it takes you to the "Page Not Found" page.

August 05, 2008, 11:50 PMCPod, thanks for getting rid of the manual approval process for Group founders.
Unfortunately, it seems like applicants (who were waiting for approval before the manual process was removed) have been lost and can't be approved now.
I tried joining again, but it says "Application received. Awaiting approval."
Please check it out when you get a chance. Thanks.

July 29, 2008, 01:40 PMIt took me one week to realize that users should be approved. That doesn't make any sense for an open group.
