The “lucky color” red doesn’t go well with green--especially when the latter is brought on by a fit of jealousy. Catching up with girlfriend/boyfriend Chen Li and Zhang Liang, we find out that there’s a (tiny) possessive side to one of Chen Li’s friends. Better start writing that diary in code! In this podcast, follow along on a dinner party gone wrong, in Mandarin Chinese.

Hi Sophie and Laura, Looking back at the other dialogues, we can get a fairly good feeling for the characters. Zhang Liang seems like he has his heart in the right place, though is a little naive, as can be seen both by his own declaration in 'Love Letter' and also in his relations with his friends, in 'A Guy's Advice On Women'. There, he is very easily swayed into believing that Lili is no longer in love with him and has fallen for Liu Xiang, despite some very shoddy arguments. However, as shown in 'Growing Affections', he is ultimately a sweet individual, who is honest and caring, who politely turns down his suitor in 'The Come-Ont'.

The same cannot be said about Chen Jing. In 'Scheming Girls', it can be seen that she does not necessarily hate Zhang Liang, but rather doesn't want to see Lili happy.

Lili herself seems to be quite a volatile character, as shown in 'Lover's Spat', where what seems like an innocuous situation explodes, and Zhang Liang is unable to rectify the situation.

This should give us a better understanding of the characters for our performance.
