Update on Vocab Database and Import Features

June 01, 2007, 08:27 AM posted in General DiscussionIf I was on the other end of this I'd certainly be saying, "Geeze, this guy is annoying." However, the database feature is what I was paying for in V2 and I'd like to think I've been (patiently) waiting for 2 months or so now (or however long its been since V3 was made public).
Recently I've seen lots of new bells and whistles and was hoping that some of the old meat and potatoes from the previous version would be coming back. Just curious....

June 01, 2007, 10:36 AMOkay, I'm noticing a new "sample" link here next to the Import section. It seems that anything I want to import needs to be reformatted to fit this specific format. Is this true? Also, is there a step-by-step document lying around somewhere that would help one such as myself in formatting a document from scratch? Thanks Eileen! =)

June 01, 2007, 01:09 PMOkay, I've spent about an hour or so experimenting with this format via a few different word processors. I've also renamed my test files to .xml. I'm obviously missing a big part of something here. Has anyone had any success in importing files? Is anyone else using the ZDT flashcard program? I'm trying to import from there.

June 02, 2007, 07:48 AMTried commenting on this last night, but the network connection must have been bad if it didn't take. The short version of that post was that the glossary/dictionary will be set up on a separate server, and that this is in the process of being arranged. When the bones are in place, the flesh will follow.

June 04, 2007, 06:08 AMHi Kyle, Apologies for not replying at once, it was the weekend. Let me get more information about this specific functionality before I answer your questions. :-)

June 04, 2007, 06:19 AMHi Kyle,
What we did was to just open up the xml sample file on Notepad. We didn't change the format, we only replaced the words (i.e. Hanzi, Pinyin, etc.) When we wanted to add more words, we merely just copy paste

June 01, 2007, 09:49 AMHi there, The import function is fully operational on the Vocab section now. As for the Vocab database/glossary, David and the team are still working out a few technical issues with regards to that. :-)
