Studying Chinese

da jia hao - How long has everyone been studying Chinese?  I've been working on my own for about 4 years now.  Unfortunately, I'm only at about an intermediate level, even with all that time spent working on it. 

Don't live in Portland, but on the Oregon coast - hope that's ok?

I'm in PDX. I've been studying for about 2 years.  I spent 10 months in Shanghai studying at a university. I also worked with a very good tutor for about 8 hours a week. I returned about a year ago.  I'm heading to the mountains of Yunnan at the end of March for a 3 month stay.  Currently taking 3rd year classes at PSU.  I'm at about the intermediate/upper intermediate level with respect to Chinesepod.
