Please introduce yourself and maybe provide a couple of reasons why you use the Community forum on Chinesepod.

I don't actually *use* the Community forum on Chinesepod much, because I find it difficult to navigate. I only persisted in trying because I'm the kind of person who naturally seeks out community. I'm a heavy user of LJ for just that reason -- the other blogging services make it harder to connect with other users.

For example, I would love it if users could track threads that they've commented on. I'm doing the elementary lessons in order and I'm currently something like 81 lessons behind (85 including the four vocabulary tours). Therefore, when I comment to a thread, I'm like the proverbial voice crying out in the wilderness, and I really don't expect anyone to ever reply. It's always kind of a pleasant surprise when someone (usually Amber) does.

And it took me forever to figure out that the first tab under the Community section was where to go to figure out if anyone had replied. I actually started out trying to bookmark them myself and go back and check periodically.

Hi penhuizc, thanks for taking to time to write your post. Currently, the Community section of Chinesepod is underdeveloped. As you know before September of this year, Chinesepod was a free application therefore Praxis Language had very limited resources and staffs devoted to managing Community in Chinesepod. However, since September, Praxis Language is taking the initiative to solicit comments from users in order to improve the functionalities within Community.

Anyway, back to your question regarding tracking posts. Currently the system is imperfect, in order to track your posts you have to click on me, then click on the posts tab, and on your right in managed posts there should be a list of conversations that you have commented on. I hope this help.

As a user of community, can I ask how many groups are you assigned up for and how often you do check the post within these groups?

If you have any other concerns or suggestions please feel free to leave them here.

Thanks again,

Kate

G'day Kate,

Nice to see Praxis have someone dedicated to trying to improve the Community section.I could be wrong here, but I'm not sure I agree with your directions above in terms of tracking what penhuizc was referring to.When I tried your directions above it only led me to posts that I'd initiated.Whereas the vast majority of the time I'm [and I presume others are mostly the same] commenting on posts that have been started by other people or are part of a lesson discussion. To track this I can go on the community section and just below the conversation tab is "show" and there is a list box which by default shows "all".But you can click on this and select "my conversations" which is where you can track all the conversations you've commented on.

Also ,I think I've said this in another post but it would be great if you could click on each individual post within a thread and mark it as being read.

Also ,further to penhuizc's comment about checking whether posts have been commented on [particularly for old lessons ] it would be good if there was a better way of notifying this without having to go back and manually check each post you've made.

it would be good if there was a better way of notifying this without having to go back and manually check each post you've made.

Even a checkbox labeled "check here to be notified when there are new replies to this post," and then e-mailing the user when there are new replies would be a fantastic improvement, imho.

I agree with you both regarding posting. I think, Cpod should have some kind of email notification system. And thanks again babadarwan for the technical solution. Sorry, I miss informed you penhuizc. I think, I need to spend more time in groups.
