October 05, 2008, 08:10 AMThe sound of "丑" and "纽" were something like "chiou" and "niou" respectively in middle Chinese. And the modern pinyin "niu" is actually an abbreviation of "niou".
So, the phonetic radical "丑" has high consistency from the standpoint of historical phonology.....except for 衄 (nv), but it's ALMOST, hehe.
