You've outdone yourself yet again.I immediately thought it was going to represent Autumn. But what a stunning photo.I love the contrast of the vivid colours in the foreground with the haziness of the background obscuring everything beyond [including the sun perhaps by the looks of it]

Old chinese poem is complex and not easily understood even by chinese natives ,especially this one.
It hard to useing my poor poor English to translate it .I just have a try .Anyone see this can just grin :)

October 22, 2008, 07:26 AMfor starters,I'd like to say that I do not translate but explain
塞 下 (border area)/秋 / 来(coming)/ 风 景(view landscape )异(different),autumn alaways beautiful but not in border area.the view there changed when autumn coming .
衡 阳 (an old name of a city in border area)/雁 (a kind of bird, looks like dark gooses, can fly to migrate) /去(fly away) /无 留 (stay)意。even the bird fly away ,without a little missing ,or no feel of lingering.
the poetic imagery is very beatiful .
四 面(on all sides)/ 边 声(song)/ 连 角(a kind of old horn) 起(声音渐渐吹响), the quiet and isolate city have surround with the enemy who was sing the songs to celebrate the victory . I think noting can be more desperate than this.
千 嶂 (mountain)里,see the view from the endless and overlapping mountains.
长 烟(long smoke)/ 落 日(Sunset )/ 孤 (Isolate)城(city) 闭( closed)。 citys in old china all have gates, when the night of a day or something dangerous happened ,the gatewatcher would closed the gate.but here, the poet wanted to picture the empty and defeated city and how desolate the autumn here.

October 21, 2008, 05:38 PMWow, Calkins! I haven't had much time the last couple of months for poking about in the conversations and just now realized what I'm missing out on. Thanks for putting up this group! Except you know, now I have to work my way back through all the posts which I totally don't have time for. ;-)
