What's wrong with my user ID ?

November 26, 2008, 11:50 AM posted in General DiscussionHere's how the current monthly ranking looks like. For some reason, I seem always to be listed at the bottom of that list, as if my number of posts were displayed in some hexal or some bizarre number base (even octal would be better, 60 octal being 48 decimal would place me ahead of cassielin and xiaohu at 43:-)
Anyway, by the same (devalued) token, I have dropped off the yearly list altogether. I guess the system is meant to encourage people to comment on existing posts and lesson conversations rather than add new ones.
I know pete did say he would check with the tech guys, but just for all to see :

"Trogging" was funny but I don't think it's a good idea to introduce barbarisms on a website where people learn languages.
Btw, you should add your own definition in http://www.urbandictionary.com
Trogging :
Used to say you are going to take your dog for a walk.

November 27, 2008, 05:24 AMcomputer geniuses have a saying, they woud "rather write a program to write a program than write a program", i.e. they develop their own tools for even the simplest tasks.
no such thing here, it's just a matter of being lazy, just copy / paste, just make sure to use the right tool (Firefox)...

I must say I feel a bit embarrassed to be on that list amongst such intelligent knowledgeable posters as yourself.I just love the community and enjoy the chats [ I hope I am not annoying anyone...except trolls ... ,but I thought posting was encouraged ,even by the likes of myself].But there is no prize for first is there? Surely it's quality that matters and not quantity. And the high quality of your posts speak for themselves [way above my level I know].Anyway, thanks so much for your high quality posts. The rest of us really benefit from them.

November 27, 2008, 06:25 AMDidn't you hear? We've got a new term, the days of the Trolls are done, the days of the TROGGS (小穴居人) have come!
So I don't want to catch anyone trogging up (穴居-ing) our beloved C-pod forums!
;)

November 27, 2008, 01:31 AMYou're seriously a computer genius, I was expecting the chart showing the most active users to be just a simple JPEG, then I rolled my mouse over one of the links and saw that it's displaying the real C-Pod most active users page!
How do you do these things?
你非常的了不起!

November 27, 2008, 07:08 AMHi bababardwan
No one is suggesting that you're trogging! Your comments and questions are always welcome, and your sense of humor is appreciated. I guarnatee that other poddies are learning from your questions, even if they don't have the time (or courage) to ask themselves.
Keep posting, and enjoy learning Chinese!
And to everyone else, go ahead, ask us a question! We're here just to help you out.

November 27, 2008, 07:17 AMI'm sorry, I was just trying to promote my new word "trogging", I wasn't trying to insinuate you were trogging (or trolling for that matter), as I know you're here for the purposes of learning Mandarin. I really value your input and sense of humor, you've been nothing but the greatest pleasure to have as a 同学. Sorry, next time I'll think more carefully before posting.
:)

November 27, 2008, 07:42 AMxiaohu,
That means a lot to me mate as from the start when you both welcomed me aboard and helped me I have held you in high esteem and you're high level Chinese is an inspiration to the rest of us.While I will ignore trolls ,I was certainly going to take on board what you had to say.No worries;sorry to be uncertainly taking it the wrong way.I do jest around at times and I was concerned I may have been taken the wrong way.Believe me,if I don't think much of someone I don't bother jesting with them.Mostly I come from the school that if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all [...excepting trolls of course who I'm starting to realise should just be ignored anyway ].

November 27, 2008, 04:00 PMbababardwan, your comments and humor are always welcome here. Cpod needs input from all levels of learners. In my short time on CPod, there has never been such a thing as a stupid legitimate question, nor is there a "caste" based upon subscription and/or ability level.
All are welcome. 感恩节愉快/ 感恩節愉/快/Gǎnēnjíe yúkuài/Happy Thanksgiving.

November 27, 2008, 08:18 PMtvan,
Thanks mate;much appreciated.I agree with your comment about there not being a "caste" based on subscription level. The only reason I mentioned that I was a paying customer [and very happily so;awesome value CPod] was to make the point that one is extremely unlikely to be a troll etc if one is a paying customer [in my opinion;not that I understand that species].Anyhow I was trying to say I was genuine;that's all.Of course the vast majority of people on trial [and I was one before I subscribed ] are genuinely interested.Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving.I hope you and your compatriots all enjoy some quality time with your families.btw I love the whole tradition behind Thanksgiving.I'd love to be there for it someday ,even though I know it is your tradition.

November 27, 2008, 06:36 AMxiaohu,
I did read your post earlier today about trogging.I have never posted on forums before CPod,so these terms are all new to me and I had to look it up [just like I had to look up troll a couple of weeks ago when urbandweller first mentioned it ] .I found this site here which seemed to explain what trogging is and thus I didn't enquire.I'm possibly misunderstanding you here, but I really hope that you're not suggesting that I am trogging or anything similar? I can assure you I am a fully paid genuine customer who is interested in learning Mandarin and also about the culture [and have no hidden agenda].I recognise that I'm not nearly as advanced as the likes of yourself, but I thought this site was for newcomers also. But I do sincerely apologise if any of my posts have annoyed you or anyone else.Perhaps I have not followed some rule of etiquette that I am not aware of [as I am not experienced in these matters] ?Please forgive me if this is the case.I am happy to be advised by yourself or another genuine user [trolls don't bother ;I won't care what you say].
