Hello,

I am trying to learn chinese characters and character combinations, and I find that I spend between 5 - 10 minutes making each flashcard. Considering that I have made two hundred cards so far, I have spent a lot of time making them. What I would like to know is if anyone else has experience with this, and have they found a quicker way to do them?

thanks,

amesburygeorge, here are a few more automated ways, some on your desktop and some on a PDA or iPhone, some free some not:

Skritter Online Writing

PlecoDict Flashcards for Palm, Smart Phones, iPhones

ZDT (Zhongwen Development Tool) Flashcards

ProVoc Flashcards

Dragon Character Training (Palm)

There are many more that other poddies use.  I would say the best is PlecoDict, not only for its powerful flashcard program, but also for its dictionaries and handwriting-recognition tool.

There are pros and cons to both paper flashcards and electronic ones.  I think paper flashcards are great, especially when you want to reinforce the writing aspect, but like you said, they are extremely time consuming to create.  On the other hand, electronic flashcards like Pleco, allow many more options for learning the characters (multiple ways to be tested, audio, etc.).  Maybe try a mixture of both until you see what works best for you!
