壹 is the 大写 of "一" (yi1, one), and these 大写 numbers are sometimes used in China to prevent altering numbers.

一 壹 yi1 one
二 贰 er4 two
三 叁 san1 three
四 肆 si4 four
五 伍 wu3 five
六 陆 liu4 six
七 柒 qi1 seven
八 捌 ba1 eight
九 玖 jiu3 nine
十 拾 shi2 ten

thanks changye, you also find 佰 for 百 (bǎi) 100, and仟 for 万 (qiān) 1,000. I suppose 萬 is used for 万 (wàn) 10,000, i.e. the traditional form.

Hi goulniky,

They slipped my mind! As you thought, 萬 is the traditional form of 万. "佰" and "仟", which have a radical "人" (person), originally mean corps/a legion in ancient China. They contain a hundred (百) of soldiers and a thousand (千) of soldiers respectively.
