Just in case there’s any head scratching happening over across the Straits re. elly lessons, here’s an… um… 好笑的 joke that my (elementary school) students (here in Taiwan) told me...
A guy goes into a 7-11 and is followed in by a dog. The clerk runs over, hits the dog, and chases it out of the store. A cat slides in before the door shuts, gets smacked, and runs out as well. However, a few minutes later a sheep moseys on in and the clerk just stands there and doesn't do anything at all...
Puzzled, the customer asks him why... and the response is...
7-11 不打烊 (羊)
(In case there's a problem with the encoding, 'never closes' and 'hits sheep' kinda sound the same)
That said, I gotta say that this – my first post – is actually a sincere thanks.
I’ll be starting an Ma. in the Chinese Lit. dept. this fall, and my fears of my ears not being able to keep up with my Taiwanese professors' mouths are quickly fading...
