January 16, 2009, 10:21 AMInteresting photo.
The breakdown is also interesting:
shui ..water
fei ...lung
shui fei ...is thus the translation of scuba [interesting that it is not the exact equivalent of self contained underwater breathing apparatus]
qian...dive [can also mean hidden...which you are from the surface]
shui..once again water
我很喜欢水肺潜水
From memory, there was supposedly good diving to be had around Kenting, but I never got the chance when I was there, and it is of course at the opposite end of the island to where you are Calkins.

January 16, 2009, 10:37 AMI also liked the breakdown of SCUBA diving...very symmetrical with 水 acting as bookends.
I also like 水肺...aqualung. It's the name of a pretty decent British musician.

Let me try to (freely) translate the first English sentence into Chinese.
星期四,青岛海底世界的潜水表演者们提前祝全中国人民春节快乐,幸福安康。
