January 25, 2009, 10:42 AM posted in General Discussion大家好! Is anyone here planning to go to China for the solar eclipse on July 22nd? Or anyone in China planning to go to a particular place to view it? I plan to go, but don't know exactly where in China yet. The eclipse starts in western Sichuan and then pretty much trails the 长江 all the way to the ocean, so there are a lot of places to choose from. Does anyone have an idea what places might have the best chances for clear weather in July, along with good places for sightseeing before and after?

January 25, 2009, 02:58 PMThe character "文" has a lot of meanings, and one of them is "natural phenomena". And this is the reason why astronomy is translated as "天文学" (= celestial natural phenomena) in Chinese. For the record, hydrology and physiography are translated as "水文学" and "地文学" respectively. The very original meaning of "文" is "tattoo".

January 25, 2009, 11:27 AMHi korshakken,
According to the calculation by astronomers, 浙江省安吉市 is the place you can enjoy the longest time of eclipsing in China, but I don't know if it's really the best place from the viewpoint of weather, i.e.rate of sunshine. I would content myself with the partial solar eclipse. Good luck!
