February 02, 2009, 04:29 AMHi david
Great pictures. I've never actually seen a parade like this. But I'd love to. Yes, cassie, this is Chicago.

February 03, 2009, 03:20 AMYes,
This is Chinatown Chicago. It's obviously not as big as Hong Kong or Shanghai's celebrations, but the interesting thing about Chicago, NYC, San Fran, Toronto, Vancouver, is that these parades will draw out people from other communities and bring together some of the first generation immigrants with their 2nd/3rd generation counterparts. It's one of the few the few things you can teach your children that is still genuine (we live in a world of Britney Spears and Hanna Montana, so you have to take these opportunities when you can, especially if you have kids).
They had an Irish bagpipe band that I'm sure Ken Carrol would have loved, and some high school marching bands as well.
There was an absolutely great moment when the a member of the Irish marching band brought out his drum and started jamming with the Chinese drummer... you had to be there.
I'll try to post some other pictures later
