February 14, 2009, 03:55 PM谢谢! I noticed that when I searched for the term most of the pages that came up were Sichuan based. Establishment in question is by no means upscale but makes amazing food (not 小吃 but 家常) and is, in fact, open to the street on the bottom level, so that makes sense.....

February 14, 2009, 04:01 PMChangye, I will certainly not challenge you on your definitions. However, until I learn a little more about the context of "老苍蝇馆子," I think I'll refrain from mentioning it to the establishment's owner... lest he send me flying out.

February 14, 2009, 10:37 AM百度百科 defines 苍蝇馆子 as follows,
四川一些没有经过精美装修的小饭馆... 一般卫生条件不好但是味道很好。
In short, it's probably a so-called 小吃部, including some open types. Anyway, a lot of flys welcome you. 老苍蝇馆子 means that this restaurant has been in business for a relatively long time, without having its license revoked by the authories, so I guess maybe there is no lethal sanitary problem, at least.........
