weird xml problem

April 02, 2009, 10:16 PM posted in General DiscussionI use Firefox 3.05 as my default browser. However, recently, when I try to open an xml file, it opens in IE 7.0.6xxx. I've tried unsuccessfully to reset the default app for opening xml files to no avail. So, my desktop apps are at war and I am caught in the crossfire. This probably has nothing to do with wlcp. However, I can't get the xml file to open on my HP iPAQ 211. I've tried several different wlcp xml files using Iris browser, which, I think, isn't meant for this work, IE, Opera beta 9.5, and HTML reader, and all I get is a blank screen. (These exact same files open on the desktop.)
Any ideas? I reaslly need to be able to open the xml files on my PDA because that's where I study.
Thanks,

April 06, 2009, 10:46 PMOK. Tried that. Didn't work. Tried using Haali Reader again (because it claims to read xml) , but it continues to tell me that your xml file is not a FictionBook2 document and says it can't open the file. I've tried a whole lot of different wlcp xml files, just to make sure there's nothing wrong with any individual file, but Haali has a thing about your files.
Is anyone managing to open the xml files on a WinMobile device? (Mine's an iPAQ 211, running winMobile 6.xxx)

April 06, 2009, 11:35 PMStupid question maybe, but can you open Firefox first and then open the file from Firefox?

April 09, 2009, 01:19 AMNo. But once I've opened the file in IE, then I can copy the URL and paste it int Firefox to open it. But don't spend too muh time on the IE/Firefox problem unless you think it's related to the PDA problem. I'm about to reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of Vista. After I've reinstalled the necessary programs, I don't expect problems with wlcp on my laptop. But I really do need to figure out how to open the wlcp xml files on my iPAQ 211.

April 09, 2009, 11:25 AMthat's great you found something which works, although I guess it's a little annoying?
I wanted to suggest also, in Firefox preferences under Advanced, there is an option "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup" with a box next to it which says "Check Now"
It's worth a shot clicking on "Check Now" and making Firefox your default browser.

On Windows Mobile I think you have to modify the registry settings for file associations. There are some tools available that will do this (SKTOOLS or PocketTweak).
