You may have heard this one before in English. :)

Thats a funny joke! Does 死 translate as "death" or "to die"?

Italiana “然后怎么办”is asking "What do I do next?" or "And then what do I do?" But be careful, Chinese has a lot of words that equate to our word, "do". The English word, "do" is really all inclusive which is not quite the case in Chinese. There are a few different words for "do" and you use them in different places. For example, “你在干什么?”or, "你在做什么?”both equate well to our general question, "What are you doing"? (干 and 做) both mean "to do" But it wouldn't make sense to ask someone, "你在办什么" because that word, "办" is usually referring to a matter or affair, a 事情 (事儿)It's like asking, "What matters are you attending to?" instead of just a general question, "What are you doing"?, "What are you up to?" Another two words 搞 and 弄 also carry the meaning "to do" but in more of the physical sense, not just a general sense. Referring specifically to action, which is why 搞 and 弄 can also mean, "to fix" or "to fiddle with" or "to make". EG: the word 搞好means "to do well", so you could say, 你一定要搞好了啊, "You must do a good job! Notice here do a "good job" Here's an example sentence. "他把我的衣服弄脏了" meaning, "he got my clothes all dirty", HE DID (an action) TO DIRTY MY CLOTHES. You would never say, “他把我的衣服做脏了” To quote a great man Westly / Farm Boy / The Dread Pirate Roberts, "Is everything clear to you?"

Bazza, great joke. Xioahu, great lesson. Good post all around. Here is example from the expansion on the Dog Personalities lesson that use zuo4 in an interesting way: 妈妈希望她作一个温顺的乖宝宝。 (Mother hopes she will be a mellow, well-behaved baby.)

Executer: The reference to "The Dread Pirate Roberts" was from a movie (one of my very favorites) called "The Princess Bride" with Cary Elwes (from the Movie "Saw"). If you've never seen it YOU HAVE TO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SEE THIS MOVIE!
