"儘量" or "盡量"?

hi all

quick question if I may.

I know if you want to say "try my best to..." you can use "盡量" (jin4 liang4)

however, I have noticed that this website only uses "儘量" (jin3 liang4) in its example sentences.

If i want to say "I want to try and say a few words..." do I use "儘量" or "盡量" ?

My understanding is the former is more appropriate in this instance, because it implies doing to the best of one's ability.

i.e.  <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:SimSun; panose-1:2 1 6 0 3 1 1 1 1 1; mso-font-alt:宋体; mso-font-charset:134; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 135135232 16 0 262145 0;} @font-face {font-family:"\@SimSun"; panose-1:2 1 6 0 3 1 1 1 1 1; mso-font-charset:134; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 135135232 16 0 262145 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:SimSun;} @page Section1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> 我想盡量說幾句話

Hi bingkk32,

Here, in the sentence, "I want to try and say a few words...", "盡量" is better

尽量  [盡] jìnliàng    to the best of one's ability

尽管 [儘] jǐnguǎn   even though

So, the two characters are used in different circumstances and we seldom use the  complicated character actually.

Have a nice day!

尽量 (=量, jin3 liang4) and 尽量 (=量, jin4 liang4) are two different words. The former means "as much as possible" (adverb), and the latter "drink/eat to the full" (verb). That said, actually both "jin3 liang4" and "jin4 liang4" are interchangeably used in the sense of "as much as possible" in China.
