The China Daily explains how Aric is 'reaching for mega stars' (???)
Now you know what he's been up to.

July 27, 2007, 06:10 AMDottie, I chalked that up to exaggeration. Like when you say that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the greatest thing since sliced bread. You're not actively trying to slight penicillin, you're just making a point. :-D But you're right, every place has its own flow and spark. New York is a high-energy town! That being said, I've been to Brooklyn (hell, I was born there), and I've been to Shanghai and I have to say that even with just my limited exposure, there's a vibe in Shanghai that's pretty intoxicating!

July 27, 2007, 04:44 AMI think Aric is awesome and I admire his ambition, but I take offense to his comments about Brooklyn being boring. I'm a Manhattan girl myself, so I don't really feel the need to defend Brooklyn, but in my experience, only boring people can experience boredom. My god, there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done that needs to get done, how does anyone have time to be bored? I know his comments may have been taken out of context. I also agree that Shanghai does indeed sound like "the" place to be right now. I wish I were there myself, in fact. However, I think it takes more than a few days (or weeks) to find the creative flow of a city. Sometimes it takes a while to connect with the community and creative energy of a place. Most good things take some time. Life wouldn't be nearly so interesting if it weren't a bit challenging. I think it's a mistake for anyone to write off NYC after just a short visit. That's rather arrogant.
