Hi everybody. I've now been around for a month and think it's time to write something about myself in my bio and of course I want to do it in Chinese! My skills are yet limited so I would appreciate any help from you. Here's what I've managed to put together:

你好!我叫。。。。 我从丹麦来和30岁了。我在大学学习。我喜欢猫和编织。我也喜欢喝啤酒with?我的朋友。

the with would be 跟 gen1 and the sentence 我从丹麦来和30岁了 is confusing. I know what you are trying to say. Maybe something simple like 我是一个30岁的丹麦人。

Okay, so 我也喜欢喝啤酒跟我的朋友 is correct? In the first sentence, is it 和 that's confusing or is the whole sentence strange?

the thing is 和 isn't used exactly the same as it is in English. Also there is no need for the 了 at the end.

Yeah, I had the feeling I was moving on thin ice with that sentence. The most difficult part of learning a language is always to forget about the patterns you know and accepting that it's done in a different way in a different language.

Here is what I would say using what you've both written above: 你好!我叫。 我是个30岁的丹麦人。我也是个大学生,专业是。我喜欢猫所以我有只猫。我的爱好包括编织。我也喜欢跟朋友一起喝啤酒聊天。 "Hello! My name is . I am a 30 years and from Denmark. I'm also a student, my major is . I like cats so I have <#> of them. My hobbies include weaving. I also like drinking and chatting with my friends." Added some to make it a little more interesting. Yeah, 和 is only for listing nouns (e.g. 爸爸、妈妈和姐姐)not for connecting thoughts (我爱我的爸爸,也爱我的妈妈). Think of 和 to mean "and" and "and" is only for lists of nounds. Think of 也 to mean "and also" and use it only to join clauses.

Some times I feel like a 华人 when studying Chinese. I just speak all the time and I really don't know most of the grammar rules. I just know what sounds right and what sounds wrong. It is always an enlightenment when someone who knows the grammar rules better points out why I do something the way I do.

This is so much fun! It's great to have someone help me like this. My major is Italian language and culture so that would be 意大利语和文化? Unfortunately my cat died so I don't have any so that will just be 我喜欢猫。I actual meant knitting when writing 编织 but I guess it's usually used for weaving. I found a clip on youtube with Jenny and Aric called Knit Pickin' and they use another term for it. It sounded like ?毛衣?

I would say 意大利语言文化, because my school I went to had 中文语言文化中心 "Chinese Language and Culture Center" in its name. Yes, now I didn't even use the 和 even though you could, but for names like this (majors, schools, etc.), it's good to keep them short.

Ah, yes, then say "knitting" instead of "weaving"... I'm a guy, I don't know the difference. Forgiveness is mandatory. :P

Actually, you know, there's a big difference... Nah, I'll just stop right there, after all you're just a guy :P
